DANCE ACTIVITY
SUBJECT : DANCE EXAMINATION

As promised, please find hereafter all useful information regarding the dance examination program. Please read carefully the following rules, schedules and rundown of the program. Thank you to return the attached participation slip and to join participation fee of HK$ 30 / candidate (this amount will partly help to cover expenses such as use of the auditorium and examiners fees).
1/ SATURDAY 5 JUNE 2010 from 10:00am to 12:30 : MAIN REHEARSAL
Venue : F.I.S Auditorium (Jardine’s Lookout)
All the students should attend this rehearsal ! Please be there at least 15 minutes before the start of your session !
10:00am – 11:00am : Ballet Toddlers, initiation I, Initiation II and Juniors.
11:00am – 11:30am : ballet Cadets, Elementary and Intermediate, pointes Beg/Elem.
11:30am to 12:30pm : Jazz Juniors, pre-Elementary, Elementary and Intermediate.
Attention : all primary school students should be supervised by an accompanying adult during the rehearsal.
They are requested to bring along their appropriate uniform and have their hair tied up as required (see 3/ and 4/) just like for the exams. A number allowing an anonymous identification of each student and to be provided a week earlier by the teacher, will be pined on the leotard, at the front (Please bring along 4 safety pins ).
2/ SATURDAY 5 JUNE 2010 from 2:30pm to 5:30pm : DANCE EXAMINATION
(open to the public)
Venue : F.I.S Auditorium (Jardine’s Lookout)
Students should be there at 2:00pm with appropriate outfit and their hair tied up. No make up !
Jewellery and watch are to be left at home as they will not be permitted while performing !
They will stay among the audience under parents supervision and responsibility and will come to the backstage when hearing calling their class section, then on stage, by groups of 2 to 3, when hearing their individual number.
They will be allowed to leave the auditorium after having finished their exercise, in silence in order not to disturb the rest of the program, as results will only be advised after 10 days approximately, by mail.
Students will appear on stage in the following order :
1. Ballet section first (Initiation, Toddlers, Cadets, Juniors, Elementary and Intermediate)
5 min interval
2. Points classes then
10 min interval
3. Modern’ jazz
Ballet exams will last about 1h45 and jazz exams about 50 min.
Total duration expected : 3h approximately.
3/ REQUIRED UNIFORM
Please do not wait the last minute to check your child (children) outfit. Tights should be in excellent condition, soft shoes with firmly attached elastics and points shoes with strong ribbons. Some children’ s tights are in poor condition ! Please verify this as well with them.
If you still have questions regarding uniform or hairstyle, please do not hesitate to contact me! Should their actual outfit not be correct, I will contact you directly.
* Ballet Uniform :
1. Leotard : - Initiation I and II, Toddlers, Cadets =
pink colour, sleeveless or with short sleeves according to what they are already wearing during normal classes, without skirt or anytype of accessories !
- Juniors : white long sleeves
- Elementary = black
- Intermediate = black colour with skirt.
2. Pink tights : with no underwear for the young ones.
3. Pink 1/2 pointes shoes with elastic firmly sewn.
* Jazz outfit :
1. leotard :- black, sleeveless or short sleeves. No tee-shirt permitted!
2. Jazz dance trousers, plain black.
3. Jazz dance shoes or soft shoes black.
4/ REQUIRED HAIRSTYLE
Important : I will demonstrate a proper “stage bun” hairstyle on Friday 28 May from 5:45pm to 6pm in the classroom. All parents of new students who have never participated in one of our shows are invited to attend.
* Ballet section :
Students will all have their hair tied up in a bun at ear level, as neat and tidy as for a performance. No fringe will be allowed. Therefore, please use a very thin invisible hairnet, U shape pins, gel and spray with flat pins to pull the hair at the back.
For students with too short haircut, brush the hair with gel or hairspray and fix a dance pink hair band, with flat pins.
* Jazz section :
Students will have to tie their hair up in high ponytail using 2 big elastics black colour to ensure hair will not move while dancing. Please, use also lots of gel and hairspray to pull the hair firmly.
